Child dedication is not a means of salvation but a public commitment by parents to raise their children in a home where Christ is honored and the gospel is faithfully taught. The Bible teaches that salvation comes through personal repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, not through a ceremony or the faith of parents. Hannah’s example in 1 Samuel 1 shows that dedication begins long before a child is born, as she first surrendered herself and her desires to God, trusting Him with the child she hoped to receive.
Hannah also recognized that Samuel was a gift from the Lord. Throughout the passage, she repeatedly acknowledged that God had answered her prayer and granted her request. Because she understood that Samuel belonged to God, she viewed herself as a steward rather than an owner. In the same way, parents are entrusted with children by God and are called to lovingly shape, teach, and direct them according to His Word, helping them know and follow the Lord.
True dedication requires open hands and continual surrender. Hannah willingly gave Samuel back to the Lord, trusting God's plan for his life. Her dedication did not end with a ceremony but continued year after year as she remained faithful to her commitment. Parents today are likewise challenged to trust God with every part of their child’s future, believing that the safest place for their children is ultimately not in their own hands, but in the hands of God.
